Summary Job Description
The Jefferson County Food Bank Association is seeking a new working board member to serve a three-year term.
We are looking for mission-aligned individuals with strong collaboration, communication, implementation, and strategic skills, and expertise in one or more of the following areas:
Agriculture/Farming
Jefferson County Local Food Network
CFO
Human Resources
Legal
I.T.
Publisher/Media
Supply Chain Logistics
The board of the JCFBA organization is a volunteer working board. Members are not paid and dedicate their time and expertise to support the JCFBA and its mission and collective purpose. They typically serve an average of five hours per week.
We believe decisions about board roles are a mutual decision between the prospective board member and the JCFBA board. If there’s a mutual interest, prospective candidates are invited to join a committee or tiger team in order to become more familiar with the organization before an election.

What’s Expected of a JCFBA Board Member?
As the leadership body of the organization, the board is responsible for:
Determining and supporting the mission and objectives of the organization
Ensuring strong fiduciary oversight and financial management
Selecting and evaluating the performance of the Executive Director
Strategic and organizational planning
Supporting fundraising and resource development
Approving and monitoring JCFBA’s programs and services
Enhancing JCFBA’s public image
Assessing its own performance as the governing body of JCFBA
Each individual board member is expected to:
Prepare for, attend, and conscientiously participate in at least 75% of board meetings
Follow the organization’s bylaws, policies, and board resolutions
Disclose potential conflicts before meetings and actual conflicts during meetings
Maintain confidentiality about all internal matters of JCFBA
Model the organization’s values
Commit to racial equity and social justice
Have a strong passion for food justice and an understanding of issues related to poverty and hunger
Serve as active advocates and ambassadors for the organization
Participate in fundraising events that support JCFBA
Leverage connections, networks, and resources to develop collective action to fully achieve JCFBA’s mission
Make a personally significant gift each year, which may include time, talent, and/or experiences
Participate fully in one or more committees and/or contribute expertise and skill in a specific area that supports the JCFBA
In addition, board members:
Faithfully read and understand the organization’s financial statements
Know the organization’s mission, policies, programs, and needs
Address all reported concerns or complaints regarding corporate accounting practices, internal controls, or auditing
Follow established Standard Operating Procedures for evaluation of the Executive Director, which includes input from stakeholders and the ED.
Approve major purchases and financial transactions that are outside of the Association’s business routine
Visit several food banks yearly

Our Mission
JCFBA serves county residents by providing food to those in need, in an equitable manner, without discrimination, while maintaining an attitude and atmosphere that recognizes the dignity of each individual. We follow the USDA policy not to discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, including gender identity and expression, national origin, age, disability, sexual orientation, marital status, family/parental status, income derived from a public assistance program, political beliefs, or reprisal or retaliation for prior civil rights activity
JCFBA Objectives:
Serve Jefferson County in the State of Washington as an agency distributing food to those in need, to educate the public in Jefferson County to the critical needs of a part of the population for basic sustenance
Educate the public about the voluntary opportunities of meeting those needs and the value thereof.
Gather food and funds from governmental, public and private sources and to allocate and distribute those resources in an efficient and effective manner.
Dispense those resources to those in need, without discrimination, while maintaining an attitude and atmosphere that recognizes the dignity of each individual.
Increase the public’s knowledge of the nutritional values of various types of food and the desirability of a balanced nutritional diet.
Solicit and receive meat, dairy products, canned goods, produce, and dry goods, solicit and receive funds, gifts, endowments, and bequests which shall be used to carry out the objectives of this corporation.
Engage in any other activities necessary to carry out the objectives and purposes of this corporation
